The trick to exercising during the fall and holiday season

2 minReading time

The holidays are probably when we need to work out most, and the time that we work out the least. Funny isn’t it?

Well I thought I’d help you out. This blog post is all about giving you the tools you need to make your workouts happen, even when your out of office is on.

1. Bring your own workout

The good thing about exercising is that you don’t need much to do it. You don’t even need a yoga mat, really. But here’s what I’d recommend: being a yoga mat, and an exercise band, save a few workouts on Pinterest, Youtube or Instagram, and workout in your room each morning or evening. You’ll be surprised how so little can make you sweat so much.

2. Get a membership that works everywhere

There are tons of gyms and fitness studios that offer memberships that allow you to work out regardless of whether you’re at your home studio or not. Planet Fitness works this way, YouFit, OrangeTheory, F45, Pure Barre, Barre3 – the list is endless. If you’re going for classes, sign up early and you should be all good!

3. Stay in hotels with gyms

If you don’t have a membership that can go everywhere with you, but you’re staying in a hotel rather than with family, go for a hotel with a good gym set up. Some gyms even offer classes, which is great if you need more guidance when working out.

4. Learn to love running (Or at least walking)

I don’t like running at all, BUT, I enjoy walking, especially if it’s exploratory. If you’re staying with family, offer to walk their dogs, or just take yourself out for walks when there’s a lull in activities.

If you are into running, lace up and go for it- as long as you’re in a safe place, running is no problem.

5. Play with the kids

Whether you have your own kids or you’re staying with family who does, trying to keep up with them energetically is a great way to burn a few extra calories (and bond with them!). Play some catch or some hide and seek.

6. Bring the family with you

If you’re fortunate enough to be in a place of outstanding natural beauty, or a place with hills or great hiking or bike trails, bring your family along with you. Make exercise a group bonding activity and you won’t have an excuse not to do it.
