It’s incredibly easy when the holidays roll around to think about everyone but yourself. And don’t get me wrong, it makes perfect sense, this is the season for giving after all.

Here’s where I take an issue though: is there any time of year when we are told to think about ourselves and our needs?

*radio silence*

*crickets*

So here’s to changing that. This holiday season, why not think about yourself for a change. Here are a few gifts you can give yourself:

1. The gift of alone time

Mom, I’m talking to you. Make your time a priority for once. Give yourself the night off. Let the grandparents have the kids, or get them at an overnight play date, and enjoy listening to music you like, soaking in the tub, and hearing yourself think. Your stress levels will thank you.

2. The gift of exercise

Oh come on, you didn’t think I wouldn’t mention anything health related did you? And believe us when we say this, exercise is a gift. It’s been said to help reduce stress, boost endorphins, and of course, help you strengthen your muscles and your heart. It doesn’t have to be crazy or lengthy, just move.

3. The gift of good food

Too many of us cook feasts for others but compromise on what we eat when it’s ‘just us’. Imagine if that were flipped? Would you cook the same stuff you cook for yourself for others? While it’s totally understandable that you don’t have the same kind of time available, treat yourself to a meal you’d make for others; you’re worth it (you can check the Lifesum recipes tab for inspiration!).

4. The gift of good health

Speaking of Lifesum, it’s not a bad (or expensive) gift to get yourself. You only live once, why not make it a healthier happier existence? The app is free, but if you want all the bells and whistles, and guaranteed results, you can go Premium for the price of a cup of coffee a month.

5. The gift of great memories

At the end of it all, it’s the people we’ll be talking about. Beyond obligation, make sure you spend time making memories with the people you love the most this holiday season. You’ll have those memories forever.
