Los Angeles, Ca., Tuesday, October 24, 2023Lifesum, the leading global healthy eating platform, used by companies, including Amazon, GE and PayPal to improve workplace wellness, has unveiled a healthy fasting program to help employees increase wellbeing and optimize productivity.

Popular with business leaders, including Jack Dorsey, co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, Inc, research shows that fasting positively impacts mental health (source), enhances cognitive performance (source) and cognitive function (source)—all important contributors to workplace productivity.

Unlike other fasting programs, Lifesum’s Healthy Fasting Program offers a safe, sustainable fasting experience tailored to individual needs. Employees can select from a variety of pre-set fasting intervals, or choose the number of hours to fit their lifestyle. Throughout the fasting experience, employees also gain access to nutritional guidance, support and feedback via Lifesum’s core features, including food ratings, recipes, meal plans, food and water trackers, and daily energy recommendations.

The service allows employees to keep track of their eating window with a timer and monitor what happens to their body at different fasting stages. It also provides information about the benefits of a balanced diet and how to safely stop fasting, if required.

This holistic fasting experience enables employees to receive personalized nutritional guidance on what to eat—not just when to eat. For example, the 16:8 Morning Fasting Meal Plan, which equates to 16 hours of fasting and 8 hours of eating, offers three pre-selected recipes per day with reminders when to start and end fasting, and have a nutritious meal.

“Fasting is a popular way of eating, but helping employees to find a fasting routine that fits their personal needs is key. When practiced safely, individuals report higher levels of concentration, and feeling more focused and energized. At Lifesum, our Healthy Fasting Program, combined with nutritional expertize and guidance found in the Lifesum app, provides employees with a holistic, sustainable fasting experience tailored to their individual needs for optimal wellbeing,” said Signe Svanfeldt, Lifesum Lead Nutritionist.

The Healthy Fasting Program is available via Lifesum for Work, the leading corporate healthy eating service from Lifesum, that is innovating the next phase of workplace wellbeing and leads to a healthier, more productive workforce.

“The Healthy Fasting Program is further evidence of Lifesum improving workplace wellbeing by enabling people and the organizations they work for to access best-in-class consumer technology,” added Svanfeldt.

Over 60 million people globally use the Lifesum app. Recently, Lifesum became the first company to launch a Hormonal Meal Plan to optimize the wellbeing of all employees and address the workplace blindspot for hormonal health. And via a partnership with ŌURA, employees can access Lifesum’s sleep tracking feature to understand the relationship between sleep and nutrition, which is vital for workplace wellbeing.

Lifesum’s lead nutritionist Signe Svanfeldt offers 5 ways that employees can fast healthily at work:

  1. Avoid excessive caffeine: drinking black coffee is fine while fasting, but be careful not to exceed the individual tolerance level, as this can lead to headaches, dizziness, increased heart rate and nausea. If you still feel like having a warm drink after consuming your daily coffee amount, enjoy an unsweetened, caffeine-free herbal tea instead.
  1. Hydrate: stay properly hydrated throughout the day. Always keep a water bottle or glass close by, as it can help to curb hunger. If you want to make your water more exciting, infuse it with some herbs and / or sliced vegetables. Mint and cucumber are a perfect combination.
  1. Plan meals ahead: make sure to plan your daily intake of food, and bring a nutritious meal to work. If you fast during the morning, it is likely that you will be very hungry during lunch. The natural temptation is to reach for a quick-fix sugary snack instead of a proper meal, so ensure that you prepare a home-cooked, nutritious meal instead.
  1. Breaking the fast: when breaking the fast, aim to eat a balanced meal rich in fiber, protein and healthy fats to achieve a stable blood sugar raise, as well as filling you up with nutritious fuel. These three components help you stay fuller for longer, and provide essential nutrients.
  1. Stay flexible: always prioritize your health and wellbeing. Even if you had planned to fast for a certain amount of hours, it is important to listen to your body. Stay flexible and allow yourself to break if required. Fasting is not for everyone. We all have individual needs that can vary depending on the day, sleep duration and daily activities.
